Default I'll post, not old, but

Although I think I lost these during a recent move. :(

I fiund this bottle while MD'ing. It seems these wash on to shore now and again.
This is on what was a military base during WWII on the east end of Galveston Island. Which is where I do most of my MD'ing.
I want Jeanne Lafitte's treasure. :D

Anyway, These bottle seem to have last in the water without breaking because barnacles cover the bottle and they fill with other creatures and sand. Interesting. I have cleaned several of these. I just hope I didn't lose all them. But I will go back to that spot and find more.

I was just fascinated that I found some wheat pennies and these bottles at this site.

I had wanted to detect this for a long time. But the military had keep out signs and being Galveston they fly helicopters over the site all the time. And I wanted to respect the rules.
Then one day tore down the last biulding and removed the signs. I was happy. But they left alot of debris and metal strips all over which maked detecting difficult.
That is a lsome history of the spot where the bottle are found.

here is one bottle.
44 mm across the bottom
27 mm across the top
Seems through the lip( I think that is the correct term
The lip? has ridges.
The bottom has the following - 63 (diamond shape) 52

I looked it up and it is the Diamond Glass Company. I thought maybe one of the numbers would be year. But not sure.

maybe someone will give a little more input on this bottle.

Thankyou,
Doug

Default DIAMOND INK

DOUG, The diamond company mainly mfg. ink bottles and bottles that contained BLUING for clothing. The bottle dates back to the early 1940's and is valued at approx. $5.00 to $7.00 for a no problem bottle, More if it has the original label. The numbers on the bottom are RUN NUMBERS and identifies what BATCH the bottles came from. BLUING was manf. back in the 30's and 40's for making clothing brighter when you washed them....Hope this helped a little. If you have anymore questions...Get up with me....PAPPY :D :D :D

Thankyou for the info.
Most of the bottle ahve little or damage. Surprising being tossed around in the sand and water.

So would this be something that the military could have used?
Maybe?

Doug
