We used too look for old home sites and detect. If they had an old well or foundations, Outhouses,we would check around that. Found a few bottles doing it that way. I am sure that there is a better way and there will be more info. Good Luck...Buster....

there was a tv show on the other night where they dug for bottles in privies. they used these maps, sanborn maps, which are highly accurate and old. i believe that you have to sign up for these and possibly pay for them.

hope it helps! Digital Sanborn Maps -- Splash Page

Never tried looking for them tho the family here say's there were 2 in the back yard. There was a site I checked out called Eddy's Privy Diggers and if I remember right they explained how they do it and what they look for and the research end of it. They do find alot of nice stuff but I hope ya like to dig cuz there's plenty of that involved. Hope this helps a little.

Plot plans to old houses and town archives would have general ares for outhouses on them try your local town hall. or if you know the owner ask for old plot plans. Good luck

i have found a couple (well ok, just one) privies throught my insulator huntin. One way to find them is how i found ne, i was walkin the tracks one day, saw some glass, picked it up and as i got up i saw an outhouse about 3 feet away form the bottle shard i had found. doesnt get any easier than that does it, but really, those sanbourn maps are the way to go.

Default Outhouses

When searching around old homes...always look toward the back of the house around 75' to 150' from the house for any depressions in the ground. Hunting privies has always produced for me and I'm sure it will for you also.

Default Searching

You may also want to look for places where the grass is growing higher than other grass around the area or where bushes are growing closely together...
