Default Question about bottle site

About 5 miles from my home is a peculiar bottle site that I can't figure out. This is a hill, that looks to have had a stream, or spring going down the side many years ago. I assume during periods of rain, the stream flows somewhat, but I can't be sure. The weird thing is there are literally thousands of bottles, most on the surface going all the way down this alleged stream, to a flat forest floor. About 500 feet away from the forest floor is an actual large stream. I'm assuming that the hill, since it slopes away from a road, is just a convenient place to toss bottles out your car window. It just seems odd that there are this many bottles flowing down the hill side. Most of the bottles are 1950-1970, but there are half buried bottles and who knows what else. I've found some pretty cool old chemical bottles there from the 1950s (gotta be careful with these old chemical/poison bottles, as I found an old bottle of Chlordane, which I promptly displayed at home!) Do you think my assumption of what happened here is correct? There just seems to be too many damn bottles!

since it is mostly bottles from the 1950's-1970's ide think it was some sort of place for people to dump the things they couldnt burn. if it was just bottles being thrown out windows of cars i would think there would be recent bottles too. ide dig down under the surface bottles to see if there are any older layers.

Default Bottle Dump

There could be many possibilites as to why there are so many bottles at this site.
1. Water could have washed the bottles there from some other location.
2. There could have been a homestead around close and the people used it as a bottle and trash dump
3. The bottles could have accumulated over the years from people throwing them down hill.
4.Could have been used as a personal dump
5. Could have been used as a commercial dump
** If there are newer bottles on the surface...YOU CAN BET...there are older bottles underneath. POISON BOTTLES are the cream of the crop at the moment for high dollar resale, Especially in Cobalt Blue and Ruby Red.
I have collected bottles for over 45 years and it sounds as though you have hit VERY GOOD collecting spot. Let me know what you find...PAPPY

Default Old Bottle Site?

I agree with Pappy. I been diggin for about 9 yrs.
Some people would throw bottles in a ravin or a stream so many years that the leaves and vegetation would cover them up. It looks like you found a good bottle site!
