old copper button 1765
i found this old button at an old house in my neighborhood and cant seem to find out anything about it,it says provide et constantur 17(10)65 thanks for any help

Johnny, Trying to remember my French....Provide et means "Provide and " but I can't remember what Constantur is. I think it means Constant but I'm not sure...I will find out for you and let you know. STILL RESEARCHING.

just got my new batteries but found my daughter chewing on my memory card and cant find usb for camera will post as soon as i can, center has one loop ,straw circled up around rim of inside and a piece of what i think is dried out leather backing .

O.K., The writing is Latin and means " PROVIDE AND SUSTAIN"...NOW.. I am trying to obtain information on it's origin....Possibly from the Rev. War era...will keep you informed as I find out.

I did a web search and came up with a site,but it was all in german
 I think it was a detecting site ?

Hello!
I found the exact same button at a road construction site here in Norway. As i was searching the internet for the meaning and origin of the button i found your post. I have also found the German websites and also some Hungarian that i could not make anything out of. I stumbled upon the Hungarian ones as i first searched for PROVIDEET CONSTANTUR at and not PROVIDE ET CONSTANTUR. But i have not been able to figure the origin yet. sorry i didnt get back to you sooner its been awhile since i posted this button,i still cant seem to get any info on it ,sort of at a dead end .i would really like to know what it is ,and why i found one on long island ,new york.hope you have better luck than i did,keep me posted and i will do the same.

Found a dutch detectorist webpage where one guy was asking about a similar button. The answer he got was that the text means 'protective and durable' and the button is relatively new, from rain jacket or like. Babelfish wasn't quite clear, as usual. Whether this is accurate info...go figure.
got that from another md website.
