Default Old button. Any help?

Hello Pappy and everyone,
I found this button in a field that I had found some old gun parts, bullet casings, copper bullets that had been in a tree that is now gone, along with other stuff.
I no nothing about this except that it is an old button, it has some writing on the back, but nothing that I can see on the front.

Thanks,
Happy Hunting,
Joe Kerchner

You sure should keep that button. A lot of them are VERY collectible. I don't know much about them but I know if I do get one I sure would treat it well.
A couple years ago I found one and gave it to a friend of mine. He found out it was from a CW uniform.
Have you tried to google it to check it out yet?

JOE, It is well worth keeping. The double gilt means that it was heavily treated with gold gilt and possible from an officers uniform. I would say that it is from the C.W. era maybe earlier.
I can't find anything on Quality Button Co. as of yet but I will keep checking.

It very well may be a Waterbury BM button though I have never seen one like it that did not have Waterbury BM'ed on the back.

Hi Pappy and All,
Wow, I didn't think that it was anything to keep. I also found a few gun parts and bullets in the area. A friend found a 2.75"dia metal ball, I think it is probably cast iron. It is very magnetic, but reads 4 to 8 on my xterra-70. all iron reads -2 to -8. We thought it was probably a mill ball, could it be a cannon ball?
There were no C.W. battles faught here in IL. could it be from a post or fort or something like that?

Thanks and Happy Hunting,
Joe Kerchner

I have looked at many hundreds of C.W. button photos and I have not seen any that resemble this. I saw a few that said superior quality, none that said 2nd quality. Has anyone else had any luck? any help would be appriciated. Once it warms up a little around here I plan on hunting the field for more. I found this with my cheapo MD, with my xterra-70 I only dug up ferrous objects. This is because I was looking for meteorites. I was getting many different targets that I did not dig, who knows what I left. I also found a few(<10) indian stone tools at this site.
Thanks in advance,
Happy Hutning,
Joe Kerchner

Question

Has anyone been able to find out anything about it besides it is an old button? where would I be able find out? could I email a collector or can somebody here help me, I know that many people here are very good at identifying antique items, many enjoy doing it. Heck I enjoy trying to find out about a rare, hard to find item such as this.
Thanks,
Joe Kerchner
