Default CIVIL WAR CARTRIDGE

PAT, You have located a Maynard Cartridge from the Civil War Era. Could you please advise me if you purchased the cartridge or if you dug the cartridge. The Cartridge originally had a metal case which contained the powder. You can purchase these usually for $.75 to $1.50 at most flea markets or Civil War Sales. They are quite common, however, if you dug this cartridge you may want to check the area some more....HOPE THIS HELPED.....PAPPY

Default Bullet ID

Pappy, I dug this at an old home sight. I was working the area around a storm shelter to the side in a field. I do believe the troops use to travel the road near this home. I've been told there was a camp somewhere near my home. The location has never been found. Boy would I love to discover this place someday. But we are talking a lot of land to cover and land if being sold everyday. With fences being put up, it is getting harder to access.

Default LAND

YES PAT, I understand about the land situation. If you can, you need to get back over there and check some more. If there was a camp close by you may find some interesting stuff....PAPPY :D :D :D

Default camp

Pat,

When searching for the camp watch for slight depressions in the ground that will usually be in rows. These were from the 'pup tents' the solders lived in. I have seen these in Havelock, N.C. where the 49th New York camped.

Joe

Happy hunting.

Joe, I know of an area like what you are describing. It is in the area of where I think this camp may have been. This area was to grown up to detect at the time I was in there. It had a lot of bodark or I would have had the tractor in there! Me and my brother came upon this spot and uncovered some large rocks that where beneath the ground which seemed to run along a driveway or wide walkway. Let me add there was years ago a road that use to run from one community to another community and is no longer there since around the 40's. I am going to check and see if I can find an old map of this area, but not sure of how much luck I will have with that. He told me there where raised rows in there. We where thinking of an old home site and land that was farmed. But after what you have said I am going back to check this again. When winter sets in maybe it will be a little easier to get in there!

Thanks for that tip!
Pat

When I re-read your post, I understood wrong- going back to check area anyway.
(Will be looking for depressions in rows)
