Default 1882 gold coin certificate

Hello Pappy a friend of ours found this certificate in his attic and was wondering if it was the real thing,"this is what he wants to hear" , or just a copy, it is about 5 1/2 inches long and about 2 1/2 inches wide, and is lamenated, thanks a lot again ....jack

Default BIG MONEY

WELL JACK, THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT IT APPEARS TO BE THE REAL THING WITH WHAT I CAN TELL FROM THE PHOTOGRAPH. THE BAD NEWS IS THAT IT IS LAMINATED. IT IS VERY POSSIBLE THAT THE TREASURY WOULD HONOR IT BUT NOT FOR IT'S FACE VALUE SINCE IT IS LAMINATED.....THAT'S THE BEST AND THE WORST OF IT...MIGHT WANT TO TAKE IT TO A LOCAL COIN DEALER AND HAVE HIM/HER INSPECT IT AND POSSIBLY THEY WOULD WANT TO BUY IT...WISH I COULD HELP MORE....LET US KNOW WHAT YOU FIND OUT....PAPPY :D :D :D

POST SCRIPT: I CONFERED WITH GREG AND HE SEEMS TO THINK IT IS A REPRODUCTION....CAN YOU TELL US HOW THICK THE BILL IS?...PAPPY :D :D :D

Agreed!
If it is the real deal he has something Special but the lamination would bring down its value greatly
