Default Ancient Coin

I didn't find this detecting, but it has been in my collection for years. I would like to know as much as I can about this coin. I will settle however for what it is and where it comes from.

Default Coin

I can't locate this coin anywhere. It appears to be of midevil design. Maybe Anne or some of our friends at COVMOLES may be able to identify it.
Let's give it a try. I'll post it on their site and see what we come up with.

It has a Celtic look about it but is not quite right.

That's okay Pappy, went to do it and found you had beaten me to it.
It has an Aribic feel to it.
I have looked in some of my books but so far no joy, will keep looking, hopefully someone will tell you what it is.

Perhaps email the pictures to a university with an Arabic studies program or one of the larger museums.

I would agree. It has definately an Arabic feel to it. Not Celtic for sure. I found a similar type of coin that ended up to be from India. It was right in the middle of a bloody Celtic field in England. My heart stopped. I'll post it when I get a moment.

I have been advised by Porkus on the CovMoles Forum that your coin is a ISLAMIC DIRHAM and you can find it by doing a google search...THANKS PORKUS !

Sent an email with pictures to the owner of a website that deals with Indian coins and this is the reply I got. "Your coin is a base silver deb (or half rupee) from Bhutan, c.1820-35, ref KM 3."
