Default Help

Pappy,

Can you help me identify this object?

I found it in a reservoir that was drained.

It shows up between a pop tab and a penny on my Ace 250.

It is about the size of a quarter and has some green patina on it, I think it is brass.

The words on the flag at the bottom are as close as I can read:
AEVINVIEKD

It has a shield in the middle with a crown on top on each side is a lion/Egyptian looking cat. In the sield is the same cat figure.

It looks like the top of an alcohol bottle or a button of some sort

I saw something very similar to this once...it was a stamp for sealing letters with wax...the wax is melted and dripped onto where the letter is folded - and then the stamp is pushed into the soft wax creating a unique design...a coat of arms WAS sometimes used as a stamp design...not sure that this is one...but looks similar...

Very odd item. I don't think it to be a wax stamp but I'll not rule that out yet. Let me do some checking...Keep you posted.

Default The figure is..

The cat like figure is a 'Griffin' and is a relatively common figure in Heraldry.

(trivia)
The U.S.M.C has an ECM squadron (VMAQ-2, flying the EA6B Prowler last I heard) that has the 'Griffin' as it's Official Squadron Emblem, but uses the Playboy Bunny on the tail instead (with written permission from Hef of course).

Hope the identity of the 'Griffen' helps solve the mystery.
Joe
