Default Another unknown...

For some reason, this thing looks familiar to me but I don't know why. It's about 2-3/4" in overall length and the loop fits a finger or thumb comfortably. On one side (side shown) there are small indentations -- 21 to be precise -- drilled (presumably for indexing it's location?) In the end, there is a hole -- appears unthreaded, that is about 3/8 to 1/2" deep. It appears to be brass. I was thinking maybe a part from a musical instrument? Anyone got any ideas?

At first, I thought it looks like a retaining pin or removeable keystock. The fact that it has the drilled indentations must make it something more unique than that. It might regulate the depth or width of something.....

It is very possible that your item is a throttle pin from an old tractor. The notches are for the throttle adjustment and it had a wire in the end at one time that went directly to the throttle.

Very cool find. I like all the suggestions, which are much better than my first thought (sardine can key).

Thats what I though of when I saw it. A lot of brass music instruments have those. They are used to detune while playing. Makes a note sharp or flat depending on the position.

Twas my first thought (instrument part)... your picture sold me on it, and then I found this pic:

which really sealed the deal. Sure looks like the third valve tube adjustment key shown! I think we have a positive ID.
