Default An Old Lock ?

Hey Pappy, If you have the time, I'm hopeing You can help me with this lock. I found this yesterday at an old home, I'm pretty sure its an old lock, but all I found was this front peice, that says US. You can see part of where the key hole was. I let the homeowners keep it, since it was the only thing I found, I'm curious on a date.
Thanks

I would say it's part of a U.S. Postal lock. Or U.S. Mail. I've seen them before. It's plenty old and nice find Indy

Default Postal Lock

INDY, It appears to be an iron lever postal lock. I can't date it for you BUT if you will e-mail Jerry Clausen and enclose a photo for him he will be able to give you an exact date and tell you exactly what type lock it is.

That is a great looking lock. I think it is also cool that you let the homeowner keep it. Good job, Beale.
