Misstrike / Error Question
Pappy, I recently found a Lincoln penny that has absolutely no rim...the strange thing is that otherwise the coin is stamped correctly. When I researched misstruck coins without rims - they indicate a "blank or planchet" that was produced without being struck with a die.
There are no tool marks or other indication that the rim of the coin was removed, ground, sanded, etc...my question is: have you ever heard or seen where a coin was struck on a disc that was not properly prepared and resulted in a stamped coin without a rim? I hope you can tell what I'm talking about from the picture...

Picture is too small to tell, but I've seen all types of errors. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it was a mistrike.
