There is a market out there, and on ebay for star notes. Just like coins, the better the condition the more the value. But crisp $1 star notes will bring maybe $2-$4 to the right person. If you can find a serial number run of the star notes from the same pack, say 4 or 5 or even a whole 100 bill pack, all being star notes, the the value will be considerably more. I once sold a $100.00 bill star note, crisp uncirculated, for $125.00. Not a bad return.
The reason for the star is that the mint messed up the note at the mint, and had to replace it with another note using the same serial number but added a star instead of a letter to show the replacement.
