I just read yesterday about mistake coins that have one denomination on one side and a different denomination on the other side. But the coins I saw were not copper color on one side and silver on the other. I feel quite confused.

Default Coin

In all my years I have NEVER seen anything like that before. I hope that someone here will kick in some information and I will do my very best to locate some information concerning the coin.

The details I have found say it is a magicians coin. It was hand made by grinding down the 2 coins a bit and then glued or sodered together. Because of the 2 different colors, there is no way that this could be a mistake made at the mint. I do not think it will be worth much however. But maybe you could learn some tricks to use it for and earn money via bets made on what will happen during your trick. Great find though, I wouldn't mind having it.

Sorry Pappy, I guess we were posting at the same time. But what about the silver on one side and copper on the other side, could it really be a DD coin?

Well, if that is trully a Merc on one side and a Wheaty on the other, Then you really do have a very valuable coin. VERY valuable! I guess there could have been both planchets on the die at the same time, but, there would have had to been a reverse wheat die on one side, and an obverse Mercury dime die on the other. Looking at your pictures, I don't see where the two are melded together, taking in consideration that the penny is bigger than a Merc Dime, you should be able to see the penny on the out side of the dime looking at the dime view. I would have to see it. But if it was real, I wouldn't even begin to give it a value. Certainly thousands.
