Default This Token? is a Tough One - I Need Your Help, Pappy.

I found this token in the water near the old town wharf Somerset, Bermuda. It's aluminium and quite old, at a guess I'd say mid to late 1800's. It might be British but I think it's Americain based on the liberty bust on the front, unless it represents Brittainia. Like I said a Toughie. Note - the dimensions are the same thickness as an Americain Quarter but 1/8th of an inch larger in diameter.

Cheers,

BDA

BDA, what makes you think that is a token?

I asked on the World Coin Forum and everyone thought it was a token not a coin. This doesn't mean they're correct but it's a strong possibility. The only old coins I have that are aluminium are from Jamaica.

Cheers,

BDA

I would say american as well, but that design on the back looks so familiar. I swear I've seen that somewhere.

BDA - is that an "NC" on the reverse or an "NO"...if it's American - it could be the initials for a city or state...

Default Item

What does it say right above what is thought to be NC on the back of the item, and how many stars does it have?

I just looked through my tokan book and my coin book I see nothing similar to this. I sure will be interested to see what pappy has to say. Great find though.

I think it is a stylized O and a Z in the center with the letters OUSPEERTAS across the top and 9 Stars evenly spaced around the border on either side of the word OUSPEERTAS.
The piece is quite worn in places so it is hard to make out all of the details even with a magnifying glass.

Thanks,

BDA
