Default Really Old Brass Lock

Hello Pappy,

I found this lock today at an old house in Charlestown, Indiana. It is a Fraim lock with a spring loaded key cover. The lock is marked "U.S.B.I.R." My question is; what does this "U.S.B.I.R." stand for? Is a railroad lock? How old is it and is it valuable? Thanks and HH!

Default Railroad Lock

Fraim Lock Company was in business from 1881-1955. The lock you have is a Binghamton Railroad Lock from Niagara Falls. It appears to be in pretty good shape and cleaned it would fetch about $45.00 at a trade show. Your lock is probably from around the early 1900's.

Default Thanks Pappy!!

Thanks for the info Pappy. I figured that it was probably a railroad lock, but I had no idea which one. Thanks again and HH!
