Civil War bullet Identification

Hey Pappy. They tell me you are the man when it comes to id'ing things. I was searching my backyard the other night and my detector kept pinpointing something it said was silver. So i dug and dug and dug, but could never find it. It was getting dark so I gathered up all the dirt into a cooking lid I had laying around and took it up to the house. Well this afternoon I decided to wash the dirt away and see if I could find something in there. So this is what I found. I searched the net and really couldn't find much about it. If you could id it for me I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks David

Just looking at the scan without details as to the diameter and a close up, I believe it's a modern .38 pistol bullet. The ring is faint but I believe it has serrations (lines in the groove). I'd say that the base is dished as well.
If you can provide more details (diameter with calipers and length) the groove close-up, then I can be more detailed.
