Default Whatsit?

This is one of the first cool things I have found with my new DFX, I found it at a local beach.

It is longer than my hand, has good weight, and looks to be made of brass. It is bent out of shape for sure and that kinda makes the bottom of it look like a fish tail, but i am pretty sure it should be bent flat against somthing and screwed in since there are two holes in it.

At first I thought it was a door handle, but if it is wouldnt it be closed on the inside and not open, unless it had wood in it back in the day. Some have suggested it was a bracket for a hand rail or maybe a coat hook.

Thanks

It's a cool looking piece Shawn, but no idea what it is. Could it be a bottle opener, but I don't think they would make one out of brass

A bottle opener would have been my guess too. Very interesting piece whatever it is. Congrats on the find

Thanks guys.

Bottle opener is definitely a new one, and a great guess. I just think if it was mounted with the holes it currently has in it, one in the mouth tab and two at the bottom, there would be no place to open anything.

I wonder if I applied heat, if I could bend it back into shape.

I was thinking I might make a cane top out of it, not that I need a cane yet, but it would be cool to do something with a find, not sure I want to tamper with it though.

i think it's a door-knocker...could be wrong though. i sorta was also thinking maybe an ornate coat/hat hangar. cool...whatever it is.. i bet its even nicer once ya get it cleaned up, too. nice first find with the machine.

I feel like this item came from a T.S. Elliot novel.... makes me think of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Very cool,... and so completely random for a *beach* - musta washed up! I bet it has a nifty story to tell...

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun!
