Default Silver or not Silver?

My wife was gonna give these two plates to someone and I told her to wait till I see if they are silver or not.Well Pappy I'm not sure and was hoping there was an easy way to tell.I do know they are non-magnetic and seem a little heavy. One looks a little more silvery than the other which has a slight golden hue.

the golden hue is the natural oxidation of silver. so is the black. they look sterling to me.

I would hang on to them for now. Take them to a jewelers that has a silver testing kit and have them tested. If then ya want to sell the silver and wght of plates could bring you good money, Beale.

the one with the slight gold hue in my opinion is probably silver plated ( base metal coated in silver ).With the absence of hall marks the two of the are probably not silver.

Default Plates

Gary, if they do not have any hallmarks...I doubt that they are Silver. Both are probably silver plated. You may want to take them to a jeweler and have him test them with a drop of nitric acid and potassium-dichromate.
