Very cool find congrats on it! Is it possible that it is a brooch, or even a big pin? In any event it is a sweet find, Beale.

Default Don't shoot , im just a messenger

I hate to be a scunner but theres a fair to strong chance that item is silver plated.No Hallmark is a pointer as is the words sheffield silver , it's synonomous with silver plate.

Sure looks like a buckle from a woman's belt to me. Great find, even if it turns out to be plated.

Looks like silver plated brass broach. You can see where the pin was on the back. Cool Find!

Hawk;

Here is my $.02 .... Looked it over long and hard and at first Im thinking part of a base for a candlestick holder...but then on looking again, I saw those pieces sticking out on the bottom and them it kinda came to me that it they may have been for a hinge and a clasp to hold something closed. so my next and more researched guess was : tea caddy lid or maybe even a base of one. It turns out that Sheffield silver did make some plated stuff from what I read on the net... i'll enclose a link to a like item, look at how the lid is attached to the actual caddy (bowl, whatever you want to call it...)

Rick

Then agin..homefire might be right...?
