Did you ever find out exactly what it is made of ? I think I know what it is in relation to where you found it BUT I need to know its composition.

Pappy I think it is lead. I get the same indication that I get from Minie Ball found in same area. Also the patina is same as the MinieBall. The metal is soft like lead as I can bend the "legs" a little by hand.

I'm pretty sure that the item is a base lead used to make bullets. It's appearance gives me the indication that a soldier may have molded the lead into the shape that it is in ( time on his hands and nothing better to do)....Lead Ingot.
