Here is a GREAT site for hallmarks Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks

by your description (since I can't see it) I think I found the hallmark....unfortunately it's in the unidentified category American Silver Marks Unknown - Online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks

Last row ,right hand side. They may have more info.

Looks like part of an old pipe stem(the part that keeps the stem from splitting)

Good find

WDC Wellington Pipes
I own quite a number of WDC Wellington pipes, and collect them when I find one worth obtaining. It is my understanding that the ones with hallmarks are nickel and not silver. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. It is clearly marked sterling silver....would it be marked as silver and made of nickel?
