Default It's a Spanish whatsit....

Hi Folks!

I'm not up on my Spanish coinage, but it would appear to be a Spanish coin: On the second pic, you can see "Anno 1736", or the year 1736. Maybe 8 reale?
Have no idea if it's real, a total fabrication, or a reproduction.
Where did you get it from or find it?

HH! -Tom

Hello Tom,I have been searching and agree that it is spanish, but i dont know if they minted these in brass. It belongs to a friend that bought it in a box lot at an auction. Thanks for the info and if you go to lost treasure online there was a good story called i think" Huriane treasure the hard way" The coins found were similar but made of gold. have a good one ...Terry

Default Reproduction, methinks!

Hi Terry!

Appreciate the update. I think it's most likely a reproduction.
Most Spanish coins were either silver or gold. Will have to research what, if any, "minor denomination" coins they made in copper based alloys.
Brass is suspect... It's copper and zink, with zink being a fairly recently refined metal.
I'd suspect either pure copper, or possibly bronze (copper and tin) wouyld be the composiyion of minor coinage.
Then there was the Spanish attempt at using "worthless" platinum to try and pass it off as real silver....
