Default civil war eagle button?

Hello Agian Pappy got a civil war button here I think its got an eagle on the front he has a sheild on his chest with no letter in it wings out and a fern or some kind of plant in his left talon also has col. BU rutherford NJ on the back. Sorry no time to post a pick leaving for a few days but hopefully will be able to check to see if you found any info which I know you will. Thanks again Pappy cant wait to see what you have to say and really hate to leave home now. Hope to hear from you soon. JW

JW, YES, YOU SURELY HAVE A CIVIL WAR BUTTON. NOW IF YOU WILL LET ME KNOW THE SIZE I CAN TELL YOU WHAT PART OF THE UNIFORM IT WAS FROM. NORMALLY A BUTTON LIKE THIS WOULD HAVE AN "I" OR AN "A" INSIDE THE SHIELD THAT THE EAGLE CARRIES. THE I BUTTONS ARE THE BEST AS FAR AS RARITY.THE LARGER BUTTON WOULD HAVE BEEN FROM THE MAIN PORTION OF THE COAT AND THE SMALLER ONE WOULD HAVE BEEN FROM THE CUFF OF THE COAT...PAPPY

Hello Pappy I think That I have found the button on a website and they say that it is a world war 1 button. "Great seal coat button" But Im really not sure if it is or not I have a piece I found at the same site that was once a medal of somesort with the words Pat. March 7 1871 which is why I am a little skeptical on the button being from world war 1. But the picture does match mine to a tee, still not sure what the backmark of the one from the site says. And I cant find any info from the words from the back of my button. Thats all for now Thanks for the help Pappy. JW

Glad to hear you think its from the civil war not world war 1 I have the same feeling.
