Default Knife

Hey Pappy... Found this knife at a civil war skirmish site.... Has brass riviets where the handle was. Is it a fighting knife? I think it might be becasue the upper part of the blade at the tip is sharpened? OR is it a some other kind of knife?
It measure total about 14 inches the blade is about 9 inches. IT is about 1 3/4 in wide at the widest point of the blade.

JAMES, It is very hard to tell what the knife may have been used for. During the C.W. MOST fighting knives were usually composed of a 6" to 7" Blade and they had an overall length of about 10" to 11". There are three possibilities for the knife.
1.Personal made knife
2.Fighting Knife or my guess would be that it was used for a
3.Butchers Knife

Yes they did. Some made their own knives and engraved their names on them. Most carried issued knives or hunting knives that they had before entering service...PAPPY
