Ole' Pappy
After much searching I believe I have finally identified this very unusual object that I found with my metal detector last year. My question to you is where can I get an appraisal on the value of an item such as this? The item is a "Hooked Tag" or "Clothing Hook" dated 1650 to 1750 according to several similar finds that were identified on the UK FID Portable Antiquities internet site. I found the item in a Minnesota field and there was a small piece of monofilament fishing line tied to it so it was probably lost by some European settlers in the 20th century. See the attached pictures - the item is a round domed shape about the size of a silver dollar with a raised relief of a bearded man with a turban on the front. There would have been a 1.5 inch hook on one side that was broken off when I found it. Can you help me get a value on this object? Suebee |
