Default old printing blocks

pappy I have 4 old printing blocks measuring 2x2 on copper. These are hand engraved and were used to stamp pictures on early news print around the late 1800's. They are very detailed engraving depicting different scenes of the 1800'S. I am curious as to what they are worth.

Default Printing Blocks

Those are some of the best I've seen in some time. Can you tell me what newspaper they are from or give me a little history on them?...PAPPY

Default thanks for responding pappy

the backs have two raised ridges across the full lenght with an intersecting space about a 1/2 inch from one end. I assume this is a line up device when it was set in type. sorry about the poor picture quailty.

Default oops forgot the area newspaper

these printing blocks were found on the grounds of a civil war general house. In calhoun county alabama. all were dug up using a metal detector. scene 1- stork flying over rooftops of a village with sharp steeple type roofs carry a diaper laden with a baby.-- scene 2- carpet bagger walking down the street reading a newspaper in spats and a top hat kicking a wallet in front of him spilling out money. scene 3- caricature of a black man looking over a fence at a chicken. scene 4 - woman standing on a chair in her parlor, petticoats hiked up , small mouse running across the floor. I assume these are southern in nature.

Like I said..They are some of the best conditioned ones I've seen in years. I would say a FAIR price for EACH would be around $70.00+ THANKS for sharing them with us....PAPPY

Default not for sure about ebay

I have never figured out how to set up an account on ebay but I would sell them all for a decent price.

Hi Mitwes56,
Welcome to the TQ forum.

Them are some nice finds.
I would be interested in the one where the black man is looking over a fence at a chicken.

Greg
