Default Old Brass Lock

Hey Pappy,
I was wondering if you might know the maker, possible age & value of the brass lock I found yesterday (12-17-2005). The only markings are shown in the scan: a big 7 with a little 8 a little lower and to the right with PAT PE'D'G on the arch.

Thanks For Looking, Roger

ROGER, That's a nice find. I'll look into it and let you know. Nothing on the very bottom of the lock is there?...PAPPY

Hey Pappy & Boobie, Thanks for looking!
Pappy, I've looked this thing high and low, no other markings! I've taken other scans and stitched them together with a rule to show the size.
Please don't spend too much of your free time checking on this! I was just wondering and I will keep it!

Thanks For The Looks & Replies!
Happy Hunting (If Your Able), Roger

ROGER, I am unable to find this exact lock BUT may I make a suggestion.....e-mail JERRY CLAUSEN at pdx2001@AOL.COM and include a photo of the lock and I would just about gurantee that Jerry can identify it for you. He has one of the biggest lock collections anywhere around and he would give you information concerning the value of the lock also. LET US KNOW WHAT YOU FIND OUT....PAPPYbanner

Default Lock Update

Thanks Pappy for the contact! Jerry replied on the lock with this info:
"Manufactured by the S. B. and Co. Pat. Jan 26-92 Jan 23-94 More Pend.
Those dates would be 1892 and 1894.
They are certainly collectable, but not rare. $10 to $15. Ebay is the
best place to get current values."
