GUMMI, It is very hard to tell without having bullets in hand BUT this is my prespective on the lot. All other opinions are welcome.
Group 1. Mini Balls possibly of the Civil War era OR recent black powder shot. Group 2. Shotgun Shell primer casing ? Group 3. Modern day 45's. Group 4. Modern day 22's Group 5. Modern day 38's Group 6. Modern day 32's Group 7. Modern day 32's Group 8. Modern day 45's Like I said..This is an opinion...Any other are more than welcome. Seems as though you have found a firing range...PAPPY

Pappy,
Thank you SO much for taking the time to answer my post! It was disappointing to get nothing but moderns - but neat to find out that a now-nature-reserve was at one time a firing range. Guess I'll move my detecting to another part of that area - heck, those marksmen had to have more than bullets with them Much thanks!!! gummiwulf |

I've hunted the same site (until i moved) in NC and have found around 25-30 differant types of bullets all CW. Most of the bullets I have found are differant, with the exception of the common 3 ringer (but still many differant caliburs) and colt pistol bullets.

Hello gummiewolf and welcome to the forum!
I think that Pappy is right on with his assesment. I do think that group 1 are fairly old based on the patina of the bullets. In group 2...is that brass or lead? Pappy mentioned it being shotgun primer casing but I don't know.... Can you, or better yet, would you mind taking a close up of Group 1 and 2 and posting them again? Thanks, Travis
