TERRY, First of all let me say that you have made a really nice find. The button appears to be in really GREAT condition for it's age. The button should read EXTRA RICH STANDARD. It is one of two buttons. The first being a GENERAL STAFF OFFICERS BUTTON or second a CONFEDERATE STATES CENTRAL GOVERNMENT BUTTON.The EXTRA RICH stands for the button having 3 times the normal Gilt applied when made and STANDARD is the name of the button. Your button, in the shape that it is in should go on the market for between $150.00 and $225.00..AGAIN, Nice find Terry...PAPPY

Hello Pappy,I was wondering were i could get some more info on this.I remember seeing one of these posted somewere once before.I think it was on the western and eastern treasure mag.site but cant find anything.I also emailed a guy that told me it wasnt military but off of an expencive hunting jacket, and was from 1840-1860's.Also were i found it is the old homesite of a rev.war general.Dont know his name yet but he was a friend of Gen.morris who lived not far from here.I need to get to the library and talk to the local historian as she has helped me in the past and is sure to be abel to fill me in on who this gen.was and i'm thinking that perhaps he may of had a son in the cival war.ether way this is a great way to learn some local history and that in itself makes this an awsome find !

TERRY, I have seen buttons similar on hunting jackets BUT not of the size you are saying this button is. I am 99% sure that it is a CONFEDERATE STATES CENTRAL GOVERNMENT BUTTON. Could have been off the uniform of any GOVERNMENT OFFICIAL. I would suggest you take it to the local historian and let him/her help you in locating a point of origin. I can't find any on-line right at the time but they usually have some on e-bay and under some of the button forums. I'll keep looking and when I find one like it I will make a post here for you to see...PAPPY
