Lock Plate for a Flintlock

Hello Pappy! Was wanting some of your wisdom! I found this flintlock lock plate yesterday at the Old Home place I've been digging the last two week-ends. It is bent but still measures right at 5 inches in length. My question: Being this long, do I assume it's off a rifle or could it have been off a pistol? I would like to find the remaining parts but this area is Very Littered with Iron in places for such a small area! The man that show this place to me is a timber cutter.......tree tops lay in a place of interest as well!

ROGER, being as big as it it I would certainly think that it came from a rifle. I measured the one I have on my rifle from 1813 and mine is just shy of 5". I have never encountered one that big on a pistol of any type...PAPPY
