Garage sale find Bronze Medallion
Pappy,
I purchased this bronze medallion at a garage sale for $1.00, not sure if its old or not. It measures 2.5 inches across and weighs 2.9 oz. Top left says FORTIS, Top right ACER, Bottom left FIDUS, Bottom center 1679, Bottom right VELOX. The back is just polished, no writing. Thanks for your help. Scott (megapulltabs)

SCOTT, I have never really seen a medallion of this type but I can translate the latin that is on it. You might want to check with your local library to see if you can get some help in it's I.D.
FORTIS: STRONG ACER: REASONABLE FIDUS: FAITHFUL, LOYAL, TRUSTWORTHY VELOX: SWIFT All wording is Early 20c Latin....PAPPY

Thanks for all the help and the latin translation. It looks like it has something to do with an old ship. I've had a few people look at it but no explanation yet. When I find out what it is I will post it. Thanks again. Scott (megapulltabs)
