hi pappy,
this coin is just a hair smaller than a quarter.the photo shows practically nothing but if you could actually see it you can make out a shape of a spread winged eagle on one side with a forked banner or ribbon extending from the claw on your right. found a 1762 silver dollar about 50 ft. from where i found this badly worn coin so i guess it could be that old more or less. seems to be copper,and slightly thinner than a quarter please take a guess at it even though i have no more info than this. By the way that you describe the item, my GUESS would be that it is a 1860-1864 Civil War Token. Known as "Emergency Money" or "Necessity money". Can't really tell unless I was actually holding the item and could see what was on it for myself...PAPPY
