Default Pappy, Help

I am in the United States Air Force and I am stationed in England. I borrowed a local friends metal detector the other day and found some interesting things. He said I was very lucky for the first time out. I sit and have tea every morning with these older gentlemen and listen to them go on about all of the Roman artifacts that they find, the Icini Coins that they find, the gold, the rings, and the list goes on and on. So, I ask one of them if I could try my luck, and score, I find a coin straight off. I have posted a picture of my first days find. Now they have got me hooked. I am in the middle of getting insured and registering for membership with The Federation Of Independent Detectorists and applying for permission to be granted to metal detect in the forest through the Forestry Commission here in Norfolk in the United Kingdom. Now, I am at the stage to where I have to choose a unit. I don't know the first thing. I would ask my friends, but the thing is is that they are in their middle seventies and have been using the same machine for years and I don't think they have kept up with all of the technology. What machine would you suggest?

Thank You,
Big D

Default Detector

BIG D, Looks as though you did pretty darn good with the unit you borrowed from your friend. It's very hard to recommend a unit to someone. I use the ACE250 because of it's weight and it is a very easy unit to use. The ACE 250 is a turn on and go instrument and has many Great features.
Before you purchase a unit....make some posts on the forum and let some of the sponsors give you some good advice and compare units before you buy. They will be more than glad to tell you about different units and their good and bad points....PAPPY

i would go for a whites dfx.You can use the factory relic program for a while until youre used to it,then program one of the many custom programs that you can find on the net.The dfx will find you the roman/hammered coins.
