Default Cleaning Coins

DAVE, Take them out to the big tree in your back yard...NO NO NO...Just kidding.

1. Soak the coins in "Distilled" water then put them in the freezer. The water will have gotten into the dirt and the ice crystals "Expand" to break the dirt apart. Several repetitions may be needed to completly remove the dirt. This does no damage the coins.

2. Spread a thin layer of "ELMERS WHITE GLUE" over the coin with the coin laying on a piece of wax paper. Let the glue dry then pull it off the coin. Dirt will be pulled from the coin without damage.

3. For getting BLACK TARNISH off SILVER and NICKELS you need to go to the store and pick up a box of ARM & HAMMER "WASHING" SODA...NOT BAKING SODA..Take a sheet of aluminum foil and fold it into a strip about 2" wide. Place it in the bottom of a GLASS CONTAINER and place the coins on top of it. Put in a COUPLE OF TABLESPOONS of the "WASHING SODA" and pour in "BOILLING WATER" until it's covered with about 1" of water. When it stops fizzing take the coins out and rinse with luke warm water. You may then want to rub them with a PASTE of "BAKING SODA" and water then rinse them again to make them shine....PAPPY

Do you just soak them or do you use a tumbler?
That will make a big difference.
