Bridle Rosette ... Civil War or not?
I found this item with my detector about 2 weeks ago in my town. I believe it to be a bridle rosette based on comparisons with photos found on the Internet. I also found a federal marine button the same day and very close to where I found the rosette. What I don't know is the age of the piece and the significance of the design (2 grape leaves with grape cluster below). Is it Civil War era? Turn of the century? What does the grape leaf insignia mean? What do you think?

YES, It appears to be a rosette. The grape leaf would not have any special meaning as it probably belonged to a civilian. It is NOT a military rosette. I would say it is from the mid to late 1800's.
