Question Old books and magazines

A freind of mine just called me, wondering how much some books and magazines he had come across are worth. He knows I collect coins and old artifacts, so he though I might know. But I really have no idea about books. Some of the things he mentioned having are;
Alot of National Geographics from 1949 on. He specificly mentioned the issue from the moon landing.
Old books and photos.
A book from 1853 called "The Old House By The River".

Any thoughts on the values of these things. If they are valuable, I can call my freind and get a more detailed list.

Thanks.

Default Books & Magazines

Adam, First of all I'm sorry for the delay..I have been out of town.

Let's address the Book "The Old House By The River".

The book was written and first published in 1853 by William Cowper Prime and Roy J. Friedman Mark. It is listed under the TWAIN Collection.

It was published by Harper & Brothers publishers in New York.

The value of the book would depend on it's Condition, wether or not it is a First Edition or a reprint and several other factors.

If you can find out if it is a First Edition book and let me know the condition, I can let you know more concerning the value.

All National Geographic Magazines prior to 1930 and especially those in the early 1920's sell well. After the early 30's they tend to decrease in value.
The ones in the 20's usually go for around $4.00-$7.00 per issue and those after the 30's usually go for about $1.00 each.
The one you mentioned concerning the moon landing would normally go for around $7.00-$10.00.

Thanks Pappy. No problem about the delay. I'm pretty sure that book is a first edition. But it is not in good condition. My freind who called me said he opened it once, but is afraid to open it again because it may fall apart.
Thanks
