Default OK Pappy... here is one for you

Pappy,
I found this while detecting with Rob last week. Just got around to cleaning it up a little. It looks like the handle of a screwdriver but as you can see, there are threads in the open end of it. There is some writing on it but I can't make it out. Part of it looks like July 03. What do you think?
Mike

Default Not real sure

Pappy,
I am not real sure of the metal but I think it is either steel or iron. My second choice would be copper but I doubt it is copper. It is exactly 2 inches long and 5/8 in diameter.
Hope this helps.
Mike

MIKE, The item that you located is a Screw On Water Main Handle from the mid to late 1940's. If possible, please try to locate more writing on it if you can and let me know if you find anything. THANKS....PAPPY :D :D :D

YEP, Plumbers kept these with them for main line shut offs. The main line had the Male end made into the line and the plumber kept the female end when they got calls so they would have a shut off.In the late 50's the line shut off was changed over to the T-tap model that we have now....PAPPY :D :D :D
