Decided to hunt Watling Bridge area yesterday
I had initially wanted to hunt the southshore but with the winds out of the SE and the surf breaking at 4-5 ft. it was a no go. I went to the north side of the Bermuda fish hook and tried my luck at the old ferry site by Watling Bridge. There used to be a horse drawn ferry here in the 1800's to connect the naval base on Ireland Is. to the main island, then it was upgraded to a steam powered ferry and finally replaced by the bridge which is the largest bridge in Bermuda.
This area has a lot of ferrous items buried in it, from old barge wrecks to cables and pipes to plain old trash, a tough hunt I must say.
It was a beautiful day to be in the water, just the same and I found a few WWII vintage, British large pennies and a half penny; plus a small bottle with the cap still attached that looks like an old apothecary bottle. I really like finding some old stuff now and again, not that gold and silver ever get boring but history has always fascinated me.
I'm heading to the southshore for this afternoon's minus tide in search of gold, the wind has come around to the NW quarter so it should be excellent conditions.
Cheers,
BDA
