Default Have I Lost My Marbles??

Over the past year a lot of these babies have shown up in the bottom of my scoop while I am retrieving targets. I know I'm not detecting them (at least I think I'm not) but it's odd to keep finding them.
My neighbour says that the marbles were used in the old soda bottles to activate the soda. Just how this worked is beyond me and before my time.
Any thoughts on the matter??

I don't know but I find them too and most of what I find are recent drops.
Do kids take marbles to the beach?

Default I can't imagine why Steve?

How would a kid play marbles at the beach? I didn't think kids even played with marbles anymore.

They play marbles in the dirt.....not too far fetched that they would play in the sand.

You are right though. I don't see many kids playing marbles these days.

Why do they take Hot Wheels to the beach?

If we can answer that one, we have the answer to the marbles question.

I'll put my research team on it right away!

Default I was a little tired when I wrote the last post.

In the cold light of day and after a strong cup of coffee it sounds a little demanding, not my intention at all. This marbles thing has had me puzzled for a while and I am curious as to the answer of how they got to the beach and how they wind up in my scoop. To find them randomly without any signal to indicate them being there would mean that there are a lot of marbles in the ocean.
What I was really curious about was 'is anybody else finding these things?'
I agree with creek that marbles is a lost art. My brother who is 5 years older played passionately with all his friends and everyone had a bag that they would fight for. My friends were into hotwheels and bb guns, we didn't need an excuse to fight, it was our favorite game.
I think Steve and his research team have it figured out though. Marbles get to the beach the same way that hot wheels do; kids just bring them there and lose them. It's a lot like the answer to the question 'Who would go into the surf wearing $5k worth of jewellery?' Obviously, Lots of people do based on the finds we see posted every week.
Thank you, to all the people who make the deposits that keep our hobby interesting!
Special Thanks to Steve and his mates at CSI.
Time for that second cup of coffee!

The two green ones on the left and right of the center look like the marbles you would find in the necks of old soda bottles.Dont realy know why they did this but I'm thinking as a type of measuring devise. Some marbles can be quite valuable and are highly collectable.

There was an episode of a Canadian program on the Discovery channel called "How It's Made" that showed the process for making marbles. I could not believe the amount of labor and craft that went into making some of those fancy marbles!

The other thing I find are those metal discs that have animation characters on the that the kids trade.

Some of the things we find in the water are easy to explain. Others just boggle the mind.
