Be careful where you hunt, they don't allow it on the National park lands
They can and may take your machine away.
Check this out

Beaches where

Hope you have fun, and HH

BoobieinPA went recently and MDing was not allowed where he was. He had to drive 35 miles or something just to MD May want to check his post about it out.

I found this link that a local to the area posted hunting info: link already posted by bbqcook

Good Luck and HH

Talking Outer Banks areas to hunt

I'm headed there the first two weeks in July and have hunted there the last two years(Duck area). The areas you are allowed to hunt are; Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, and north to the state line. Areas you are NOT allowed to hunt are; North of Oregon Inlet to Nags Head line, Hatteras Island, Ocracoke Island. I understand the line of allowed and not allowed is just south of Jennet's Pier area. You can check this at http:Beaches where

I've had a great time there and decided this year to buy a water detector so I can get wet.

Good luck

We'll be staying around Carolla in a house that was just put up...hardly any houses around it so I'm thinking there can't be any old stuff there....or am I wrong?

Of course I'm going to vacation with the family...not going to metal detect and the detector will take up space. Should I bring it or not? What's the chances of finding something on an uninhabited beach (up until only a few years ago).

Really...I need help with this as I live in OHIO!!!!!!!

Default Bring it if it will fit!

Until someone with first hand experience chimes in, here is my 2 cents:
I have not done any beach detecting, but can tell you what I have read and know from working on the beach for years.

Targets are going to be constantly reshuffled at the beach due to the wave action.

If it is a high traffic swim area the targets will be replenished often (jewelry and coins).

The outer banks have had their share of ship wrecks, so even though it’s not real common you would have a chance at an old silver piece if you are lucky.

If it is a less frequented spot, at least the trash won’t be overwhelming.

In the summer, beaches are generally wave-built (more sand deeper targets). In the winter they are wave cut due to winter storm action (less sand, exposing deeper targets). You do get wave cut beaches during the summer due to storms however. Look for deep cut eroded areas in the sand and go at low tide.

If you can squeeze the MD in and you know you can hunt at the beach you will be on, I’d bring it. It will tear you up if you don’t and you see someone else out there having fun with their MD. Carolla is on the "allowed list" at the link.....

Good Luck!

I would definitely take it. You just never know what you might uncover.
I would even try on or around the property you are staying at. There could have been houses there before that storms and time has taken care of.
Hope you have fun and HH.

If you are staying at Corolla, take it. You only get so many chances to find that treasure so make the most of every chance you get.

Default For Real??

We're going to Hatteras at the end of August, and my husband just bought a White's detector especially with this trip in mind!
So he CAN'T use it there???
He's going to be heartbroken when I tell him.

Does that mean on public beaches, or can you do it on private beaches??

This is terrible.

Glad I read this page first, though!
