Smile Lincoln and Washington at the beach

Tried to think of a good title. Sounded appropriate.

Went out detecting today on the east end of Galveston Island.
Not much happening except the fishing sinker.
Which is good as I haven't had to buy sinkers and hooks for quite some time.

On this side of the island alot of barges and large ships pass through. I noticed alot of fruit(pineapple, bunches of bananas, etc.) were washing up on the beach. Looking out into the water I could see alot of fruit and other items floating out in the water.
About as far as a football field. Or more.
I am assuming one of the ships accidentally lost it overboard. Or something like that.

On the second pass through on the beach I looked in the water and noticed a $5 bill about 8 feet out and just under the water. About 5 inches under the water. Stepped out in the water and snagged it. How nice. After walking a few minutes down the beach I turn around and on the next pass through saw $1 bill floating about about 3 feet beyond where the first was. Stepped out in the water and grabbed this one.
I continue walking and make another pass and notice a hand written note on a piece of paper, looks written on a piece of paper bag( like from the grocery store) cut out to the size of paper money. It might not have anything to do with the fruit and money. But it might since it was all washing up together.
It was written in cursive and in pencil. A little hard to read after being in the water. But if I can make it out I will post it.

I'll get back to that area a few more times over the next few days and see if anything else washes up.
Heck, I'm thinking that maybe more bills might be floating out there. Maybe.

A paper detector. That's a thought. Maybe detect the special ink used in money. HHmmmmmmmm.
I think I will take my net next time and just run it through the water if I see more washing up.
If more is there it might collect. the water goes to about thigh deep and then gets shallow again about 50 feet out. The shallow part runs a full half circle around the deeper part. Essentially going from one part of the beach to another. My thinking is objects get caught in that area. Also there are warning signs in that water for strong under currents.
Signs in the water, from previous experinces, have collected objects against the post.
So I figure running the net through the water might work.

just to add. The port is right there, so that was my thought that it all fell off one of the ships.

Sure makes you wonder but I think your hunch is right and it fell off a ship.

chakita banana lady must have came back for her hat.
Went out to the beach for a few hours today(friday).
After yesterdays storms, the beach was wiped clean. None of the same items were present.
The waves were fairly strong and heavy rains Wed. About 3-4 inches per hour.
The rain ban from the tropical storm was over the east side.

But the detector was acting a little crazy. Short time actually detecting. Got out and enjoyed the water again. So cool and refreshing in the heat.
Did find one penny though.

on a side note, found 2 more $ getting gas and cleaning the sand off the floor board and the car wash.
Hope this lucky streak continues.

Doug
