Default saugatuck,MI

Went out with the family in saugatuck this past week and covered some beaches.Found about 3 bucks in clad-got a unusual quarter-turned out to be a clad with the silver worn off-bummer.1 interesting find though.Found the head of a shotgun shell labeled "winchester 10" It was a copper shell. My wife ,who after my finds, finds all the stuff on the internet, located a website describing the shell from a winchester lever action 10 guage model only produced between 1902 and 1929.It was very worn. Its funny how the items with no monetary value still make you think about where they came from and whose hands they touched.Good beach site? Try under picnic benches-although you have to dig through the junk-theres a lot of cool stuff around them too. The shotgun shell was found 6-8" deep at the surf line. Also found half of a "best friends" heart amulet in sterling. My first silver.

Default Additional Uses

Hey deadhead

Some additional uses for that winchester 10 shell.

Up until WWII they were used for flare gun/very pistol cartridges used in one of these:
Collector's Firearms
I have one and it took me forever to find an old empty case for it.

It could have also been used as a signal cannon blank charge in one of these:
Keystone Arms - Cannons
Makes lots of noise and smoke for a blank charge.

Thanks
Leo

If you are finding things from that vintage, it looks like you found a nice site to plunder!
