Here's one tip. Go out on the beach during the heat of the day and look to see where the line of beach chairs and towels are. Make a mental note and come back to your line in the evening.

Default Wilmington

Nate, I used to live about 15 miles south of Wilmington and there are truly hundreds of areas to detect in the vicinity.

All of the Cape Fear River shore line was used during the Civil War as was the East side of town.

Beaches to hunt would include Carolina Beach which was used during the Civil War and Kure Beach also where Ft. Fisher used to stand. Most of the Buffer Zones are closed to Metal Detecting BUT all of the beaches are open to my understanding.

I have found MANY MANY Civil War artifacts arouind the Kure Beach area and this time of the year the beaches are a GREAT place to search for anything the tourists may have left.

Carolina Beach around the Boardwalk area is a great place to find coins and rings. The beach fest was held at Carolina during July and there should be good pickins.

Wrightsville beach east of Wilmington has always been a good place to MD also especially on the very extreme North End. Have found many rings at this location.

I have some civil war maps of the Cape Fear ( Wilmington) area if you are interested. Give me a PM with your mailing address and I'll be more than glad to send you some copies.

Hope you find PLENTY !!! Good Hunting.

P.S. If you hunt the River side, keep your eyes open in the coves for C.W. Bottles.

Hey Nate, I just got back from there today. There were 9 of us that hunted a section of Wrightsville beach. If you will be this way after the 22nd of Oct, let me know.

I sent you an email

I went to the outer banks this summer...did alot of asking, research before I went...most told me not to waste my time detecting in the summer. I went and understood why...to much sand, not that many people. Summer they say is a beach building time of the year and winter is a beach eroding time of the year.

Most of the Outer Banks is off limits to detecting as it is federal property.

Default Wilmington,n.c.

Wilmington North Carolina is no place close to the outer banks.
In fact there is a 265 mile difference.
