Good choice. I hunt beaches almost exclusively on the west coast of Florida where the sand is not mineralized like volcanic islands and the ace 250 was just a pain in the neck when it came to wet sand. Lots of falseing.

Switched to a sovereign Gt which is the little brother of the excal. All the noise went away and the finds literally quadrupled. Don't worry when air testing your excal. For whatever reason BBS machine don't air test well. In the field it will go ten inches easy. I dug a tiny gold charm this past weekend at eight inches in the soggy stuff. Coins on edge at ten plus and best of all when the excal/sov tells you something is there, its there. I don't believe I have dug one ghost target since switching to the sov.

Dig all the low tones. You will end up with some foil and can shreds but that's where the gold is too. You will quickly learn the tell tale bottle cap grunt so at least you wont have to bother with them.

I think you made a good choice and that you'll love the Excalibur, I have one and was amazed by it's performance on the DE & MD beaches up here. I would recommend getting a straight shaft for it for better balance if you'll be out of the water alot.

I use a Tesoro Tigershark. Its waterproof and i've found plenty of things in our back yard, which used to be a farm field, and has junk metal 6 or 8" deep easy.
