Question The Right Detector???

There are so many metal detectors out there, which is the right one for me?
I would like something that has the graphical display like the Garrett Ace 250 but also can be used in salt water. Please let me know thanks!

Check the posts because Kellyco was saying there is a new detector that does all that about to be available if it is not already.

The DetectorPro Pirate is supposed to be good. They say it can handle salt and fresh water, and rumor is that it's good on land too.

Oh but it doesn't have any display. It's all audio because all the controls are in the headphones... they may be a little difficult to figure out if you're new to the game...

Hi and welcome to TQ.

By saying that you want something that "can be be used in salt water" do you mean submersible?

Most, if not all, detectors are waterproof up to the control box, but may not be stable in wet sand or salt water. I'm not sure if any waterproof detectors have a display, the closest I've seen to a display is the White's Beach Hunter ID that has ID lights for metal, coins and rings. JW Fisher makes submersibles with an analog meter (not sure what it tells you), but they're PI units, and wouldn't be the best for land.

I'm sure you'll get plenty more good ideas from others here! Good Luck on your decision!

Most totally submersible detectors are tone only. If you are only going to detect in a foot of less, I believe the Garrett Ace 250 has a Series 6.5 x 9" coil which is submersible but the electronics are not.

Let us know if you have any more questions.

The Ace 250 will work fine for salt water beaches as long as you don't get the electronics pod wet. But I must tell you of another water detector called the Excalibur by Minelab and it will find those gold rings in much larger quantity maybe 4 to 1 !! Send me a PM if I can further assist you. Thank you and welcome MDNoob.

Actually, you're not going to be able to use the Ace250 in the wet salt sand. Only use it in the dry sand, because the minerals really mess with the Ace250.

Post My suggestion

I'm not sure what our sponser John's Detectors is providing in a PM, but this is my suggestion.
I would go with an ACE 250 with the great display and easily understood tones (and selectable discrimination) and search the dry sand and grassy areas for a while. When you are very experienced with finding treasure and reading the tones without the display, move on to a second detector for the water.
I would keep TWO detectors, one for water and one for land. There are other land detectors out there with varying degrees of displays - but I find the ACE 250 to be a great detector for a novice. You will soon find enough treasure with the ACE 250 to have your pick of second detectors.
Consider this a second opinion with advice Kellyco and John's detectors is giving. It is only an opinion, not expert advice.

I will have the new Pirate in by early next week and you are right,This is going to be a great beach/land detector. ALL detectorPro units are good detectors. If you're interested give me a call.

JohnJ is right on. While I, personally, only have one detector (so far, so far!), everyone I know around Kellyco has several. But learn the one you have, I've heard GREAT stuff about the ACE250, and by the time you're ready for a second maybe I will be too! I can sympathize with your urge to get out to the beach... it's Florida, the weather is awesome, and I just KNOW there's stuff to be found!!!
