It's nice to see that so many other detectorists feel the same way. I hate seeing a beach that has been moonscaped by a thoughtless detectorist. I've only seen it a couple of times and I'm sure it was a detectorist because there was a piece of junk beside most of the holes where a bad target had been dumped and the detectorist had moved on. This is a hard one to overcome even though I only hunt the water, I feel we all get tarred with the same brush.
That is one of the other benefits of hunting in the surf, the holes are refilled by the waves. I just kick the main waste pile back in the hole with my dive boot and continue on my way, in minutes the hole has refilled itself completely. I used to grid when I hunted and initially checked this as an experiment and so long as there was even a little wave action the hole would be unnoticeable after one pass on a 100' grid pattern. This also makes it difficult when you have dug what may or may not have been a ghost signal and you come back to recheck the hole and it is gone after only a few minutes.
Thanks Again,
BDA
