Default Plastic or metal scoops?

I'm just starting out and was wondering if anyone had an opinion or experience using a plastic sand scoop instead of metal.

Hey....

I used to use a plastic scoop, hand held model.... I used it until I got into some gravely sand and tore up my knuckles trying to make the plastic scoop dig in...

I immediatly bought a nice STURDY long handle metal scoop, now I just push it with my foot... no bending no hassle....

great for us older folks

later

Default I've used a homemade PVC scoop and a Babb's Aluminum scoop

For dry sand you could get away with the plastic scoop but they wear out quickly. An aluminium scoop is better, more durable and easier to use. Having a scoop with a handle will save you a lot of stooping and back strain.
For the water, there is no comparision between plastic and aluminium, the aluminium scoop wins handsdown. Mine has a SS tip to prevent wear and allow me to deal with rocks and marine plants like turtle grass that a plastic scoop and even a stock aluminium scoop have a hard time handling.

I have the hand scoop and I also bought a 4 in 1 metal scoop. I don't have to bend over with the metal scoop and it digs into the sand a lot better. I can also put a magnet inside of the metal scoop, to catch little iron items you may not see so easily, like nails and bobby pins.

After replacing the plastic scoop i opted for a metal one. Does not break up like the plastic one did. Just wished I would have listened and brought the one with the longer handle.

I have a metal scoop, and have had no problems with it in dry and wet sand.

I use a metal scoop no long handle..It works good for me . I have just finished a 6 inch PVC scoop and am waiting to try it out in the water...I believe metal would be the way to go for sure in choosing your scoop.......Buster....
