Default Chris's 1st Hunt - Tobacco Bay, Bermuda

I dropped the Princess off at the spa at 10 am this morning and headed over to the Swizzle Inn to meet up with my apprentice pirate Chris. We had 4 hours to get to tobacco Bay, teach Chris Surf Pirating 101 and get back to the spa in time to pick up the Princess. This is not as much time as it seems because travelling time would eat up 1 1/2 of those 4 hours, Chris was in the parking lot raring to go so off we rared. The beach at Tobacco Bay was empty when we arrived so I pulled the ACE250, the Excal and a couple of scoops out of the jeep and got down to it. I started with the ACE beccause it is easier to learn, went over the different functions, then layed out a test field on the beach and let Chris get familair with tones and pinpointing. Once Chris had a handle on the basic swing and could find the targets I walked him through the layout of the beach including towel line and coin line, he caught on pretty quick I must say. Next was shallow water wading with the ACE and then it was time for the Excal, so I went back to the Jeep to suit up, not a soul in sight. I must have all the luck because I no sooner got stripped out of my jeans when a taxi full of tourists showed up, closely followed by a local family with their two kids. I did my best Houdini imitation and got into the wetsuit double quick and then sauntered back to the water with the Excal. I told Chris I would scout out the water for targets and he should continue working the shallows until I got back with an assessment of the best areas. 10 minutes later I'd sourced the best areas for Chris to work and headed back which was perfect timing because the tourists decided to leave and the kids were busy building a sand castle, a good opportunity for Chris to change into my full wetsuit. Chris was back in a flash in the wetsuit and we headed out into waist deep water where we practice locating and identifying targets by there tone. To speed things up I worked the scoop while Chris worked the Excal and vice versa, it was a little tricky for Chris who has never used a detector before let alone hunted in the water but he made out just fine. The targets were plentiful and Chris found his first ring which is a small daisy chain (might be .925 might be plated) and I picked up one of the thickest .925 surf rings I've ever found plus a musketball. Before we knew it our time was up and we headed back to the spa to pick up my Princess, she was waiting for us and looking smashing with her newly coiffed hair, manicure, pedicure and all that other girly stuff that I enjoy the benefits of but don't need to know how it's done.
We headed for home, cold, tired but pleased with a good first hunt for Chris. No Gold Today but that will come in time. I think he did very well for a complete Newbie to our hobby.

Cheers,

BDA

The pillar is a natural stone formation that has been carved by wave action. There used to be a natural stone arch on the island but the last big hurricane (Fabian) turned it into a pile of rubble.
The pretty painted toes belong to my Princess, my toes are big, fat and ugly and I keep them in a pair of size 11, steel toed, Red Wings.

Cheers Mate,
