Default Back out with my Pirate's Apprentice Again.

Chris has be anxious to get back out in the water for the next step in his training, so I picked him up and brought him back to my beach for a little advanced training. Chris's wife had the car for her trip to the spa, Bermuda Gals go to the spa and Bermuda Guys goe a-pirating I guess. On the way out to Dockyard to pick Chris up I saw two Golden Retrievers cross the main road and head off into the old US army barracks, it was my neighbours' dogs and they had escaped again! I chased them around the old barracks and finally got them into the back of my jeep, soaking wet from swimming in the ocean. I picked up Chris and then dropped off the dogs at my neighbours who weren't home, they dropped off a nice bottle of Pinot Noir as a thank you gift later.
I wanted to introduce Chris to a hunted out beach so he could focus on running the Excal without the excitement of hit after hit like he achieved at Tobacco Bay last weekend. He did okay and rounded up a bit of clad for an hour of hunting and I taught him which areas of the beach were most productive based on currents and sand movement.(there's always the chance of making a really good find at my beach because of the rich tourists who swim there but not today)
Next I took him down the road to Mangrove Bay Beach which is a notoriously trashy beach so he could compare the difference between isolated targets and target overload. It was a minus tide so he was able to get out extra deep considering he's 6'2", he didn't like all of the trash targets but that's the facts of life when you go pirating and he might as well learn it early. Once, Chris was well on his way I grabbed the ACE250 out of my jeep and messed around in the shallows and wetsand for a bit and soon had an 8 year old boy tagging along while his mom watched from the park bench. 'Jade' was a good kid so I soon let him try using the scoop when I hit targets that I thought were decent. I was using my heavy homemade scoop because Chris needed the digging power of the aluminium/SS scoop out in the deep water.(I'm not a cruel instructor) It was kind of funny watching an 8 year old wrestle the big homemade scoop but he had a ball and his mom will appreciate that I sent him home extra, tired; no complaints about an early bedtime tonight, I'm sure! Chris got pretty much skunked at the trash beach so he has some work to do on sorting out targets from trash but it was all good. Jade went home with a pocket full of clad and an old British Large Penny so he was pretty pleased. I kept a brass button and a Canadian penny for my troubles but we all had a good day and that's what it's all about.
I'm off to pick up my Princess at the Airport so no Surf Church for me today but I'll get out tomorrow when she's at the office.

Kewl,

BDA

Default It's All Part of the 'Pirate's Code'

I haven't mentioned this in a post yet but now is as good a time as any. The Pirate's Code or Rules (technically they're more like guidelines) are something that a lot of the Surf Pirates follow.
1) never refuse to help someone who approaches you legitimately for help in finding a lost item
2) spread your knowledge of the hobby in repayment for those veterans who helped you when you were a Newbie and to promote our hobby
3) don't ask for payment for searching for lost items but you can accept rewards if offered (some pirates follow take everything - give nothing badck but this is frowned upon by most of the Bretheren)
4) leave the beach the way you found it and remove the trash you dig
5) class rings should be searched on manufacturers' websites for return and returned if possible
6) always help your fellow pirate mates whenever they are in need
7) be a good ambassador for the hobby
8) Live Free - Die Proud

There are variations on this 'Code' but all of the points are good to live by.

Cheers,

BDA
Your Pirate Mate
